Raking up old stories: Orkut

It's been a while since I've heard anything about the social network Orkut. More than a month ago most of the blogging community was talking about this new network, affiliated with Goolge. Everybody wanted in. There was only one problem: you can only join by invitation. So Orkut became this great big mistery.

I too wanted to have a look behind the scene. And allthough a few have been giving out free invitations, I never asked one, I wasn't that interested I guess. And so I forgot about the whome thing. Then this weekend I received my own invitation to the Orkut Network. So I signed up.

So now I know

First impressions are always important. My first impressions was something like: "OK, where to start, and how am I going to find my friends?" Good thing I know my way around (very general) when it comes to websites. I think the less active internet user would have some more trouble with finding out what to do, but then again, Orkut is probably not meant for them.

Now beyond first impressions, I find that the orkut network is thought out really well. But I think I'll keep a thorough review for myself though. No spoilers.

The only trouble I'm having is finding my friends. It seems that no one I know, or better no one I have met knows about Orkut. So I've been inviting some friends to have a look. As for me, I don't think I'll last longer than till the end of the week.
